The Frankston 'RSL' Lady Blues have appointed eight-time Australian Junior Championship winning Coach Marissa Fillipou as their Head Coach for 2010.
Fillipou, currently the Assistant Coach to the Australian Under 17 Women's Team Head Coach Peter Lonergan, will join the Lady Blues immediately and start working on selecting a playing group for 2010.
Fillipou has been named Basketball Australia's National Female Coach of the Year in 2005/2006 and has been BA's Victorian Female Coach of the Year for 2001/02, 2002/03, 2004/05 & 2006/07.
FDBA General Manager Bill Runchey said, "Our Club is very excited to have been able to engage the services of such a well-credentialed and respected Women's Coach. Marissa is sure to re-energise our Women's program and we look forward to seeing the new look Lady Blues on court in 2010."
Fillipou is excited about the prospect of coaching in the SEABL Competition.
"I am very excited about coming on board at Frankston. I am looking forward to working with the athletes and the Club to develop a winning culture within the women's program, and to cultivate an environment where all athletes will have the best possible opportunity to develop and improve, and become the best players and people they can be." she said.
Marissa added, "My coaching style very much revolves around all athletes understanding their role and what they bring to the team, and encouraging them to bring their talents to the table every single game. I anticipate that we will be a vey hard nosed team defensively and will be tough to play offence against., and will develop an offensive style that best suits the talents of our playing group".
The upcoming SEABL season will tip-off in early March 2010.
